When you hire a private investigator for your particular case, you may want to check them out first. Recently, we discovered that a least one PI in Louisiana has a history of committing domestic violence. What makes matters worse, this particular investigator lists as part of their services, investigation of family law issues.
Do not be blind sided at trial. If the other side found out that your investigator had been arrested on two seperate occassions for simple battery and simple assault for domestic violence, the results for you could be devistating. Besides that, do you really want someone with this type of history working on your side.
Here are some tips in selecting your investigator:
1. Check with the local BBB to see if any complaints have been filed against them.
2. Make sure that you have a written agreement.
3. Be wary of companies that do not provide a refundable retainer.
4. Check with your local Clerk of Courts office or Police Department to see if there is a history of arrest.
5. Check with the PI Licensing board to see if there are any complaints and if they were confirmed.
6. Check with several companies to make sure that you get a fair deal.
7. Do not be afraid to ask questions about your investigator's background
8. Check to see if they are insured
9. Is your investigator hard to get a hold of? This could be an indicator that something is not right.
